Calligraphy Jasper (also known as Script Stone, Miriam Stone, Arabic Stone, or Elephant Skin Jasper) is a type of fossiliferous limestone or sedimentary rock rather than a true jasper.

Key Properties

• Composition: It is formed from silica-rich mud packed with ancient fossilized shells, bones, and vegetation (coquina).
• Origin: It is primarily mined in the Himalayan Mountains of India.
• Appearance: Its swirling dark and golden-brown patterns—created by iron oxidation and fossilized fragments—resemble ancient Arabic or Sanskrit script.
• Hardness: It has a Mohs hardness of about 3 to 4, making it softer than standard jasper or quartz.

This is what Angelica from FL had to say about our Calligraphy Jasper rough: Beautiful calligraphy jasper piece, thank you!

Safety Advisory (California Proposition 65):

While completely safe to display on a shelf or wear as finished pieces, many raw mineral specimens naturally contain toxic elements, heavy metals, or glass-like structures (such as copper, arsenic, lead, or silica). To ensure your safety, please follow these responsible ownership and lapidary protocols:

• Basic Handling: Always wash your hands immediately after touching raw minerals and never ingest minerals.

• Lapidary Safety: When cutting or drilling, always use specialized safety equipment, including wet-cutting machinery, proper ventilation, and appropriate respirators or masks to avoid inhaling toxic dust or fumes.
