Agate is a common, semi-precious variety of fibrous chalcedony (a type of microcrystalline quartz) characterized by colorful, curved, or parallel bands.

Physical Properties & Formation
• Composition: Made of silicon dioxide, featuring a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale.
• Appearance: Displays distinct color rings or stripes formed by mineral impurities like iron or manganese.
• Origin: Forms mostly inside cavities or hollow vesicles of volcanic and ancient igneous rocks from silica-rich groundwater.

This is what Tamra from IL had to say about our Crazy Lace Agate slabs: This is a jaw-dropper of a specimen--when I unwrapped it I had to just sit for a minute. The clarity of the structures, and the colors--simply amazing. Both sides of this piece are equally as stunning--I'm so glad I grabbed it. Thank you!

If you’ll be displaying the slab in your collection, we have easel stands which can be purchased separately.  We have 2″ and 3″ ones available.

Safety Advisory (California Proposition 65):

While completely safe to display on a shelf or wear as finished pieces, many raw mineral specimens naturally contain toxic elements, heavy metals, or glass-like structures (such as copper, arsenic, lead, or silica). To ensure your safety, please follow these responsible ownership and lapidary protocols:

• Basic Handling: Always wash your hands immediately after touching raw minerals. Never ingest minerals or use them to make direct-contact gem elixirs.

• Lapidary Safety: When cutting or drilling, always use specialized safety equipment, including wet-cutting machinery, proper ventilation, and appropriate respirators or masks to avoid inhaling toxic dust or fumes.
