Laguna Lace Agate is a prized variety of banded chalcedony (microcrystalline quartz) known for its exceptionally tight, fine, and orderly fortification banding.
Key Characteristics
• Origin: Mined exclusively in a small, remote four-square-mile mountain area in Chihuahua, Mexico (including locations like the famous Noriega claim and Estación Ojo Laguna).
• Colors: Vibrant shades of scarlet, deep red, orange, yellow, gold, pink, cream, milky white, and gray.
• Black Banding: While uncommon, specimens with striking black or deep dark-gray/charcoal bands do exist and are heavily sought after by lapidary collectors for their high contrast and unique aesthetic.
• Hardness: 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, making it durable for cabochons, beads, and lapidary work.
• Pattern vs. Crazy Lace: Unlike chaotic, swirling Crazy Lace Agate, Laguna Lace features tight, closely-spaced parallel lines and fortification

Safety Advisory (California Proposition 65):
While completely safe to display on a shelf or wear as finished pieces, many raw mineral specimens naturally contain toxic elements, heavy metals, or glass-like structures (such as copper, arsenic, lead, or silica). To ensure your safety, please follow these responsible ownership and lapidary protocols:
• Basic Handling: Always wash your hands immediately after touching raw minerals and never ingest minerals.
• Lapidary Safety: When cutting or drilling, always use specialized safety equipment, including wet-cutting machinery, proper ventilation, and appropriate respirators or masks to avoid inhaling toxic dust or fumes.
