This listing is for a rare and large crystal Prehnite display specimen from Morocco, 100% natural.
Prehnite is a variation of a silicate mineral that rarely forms individual crystals. It is more commonly found as stalactites and botryoidal clusters. It is comprised of calcium and aluminum and is most commonly green but has been discovered in shades of yellow, blue, pink, orange, white, and even colorless. It was first discovered in 1788 in Cradock, South Africa by a Cutch mineralogist by the name Hendrik von Prehn. This is where its name is derived from.
Prehnite forms in the veins and cavities of volcanic rock, often basalts, but also occurring in granites. This stone is usually translucent, yet rarely transparent or clear. Cat's eye formations within prehnite are possible, but rare. It is a rather singular gemstone, with no near relatives, although many are visually similar enough to cause confusion.
