This listing is for a Royal Imperial Jasper nodule specimen pair, 100% natural. This is a complete nodule that has been sliced in half and both halves polished with great color and pattern. They would make a great addition to display in your collection or could be used for lapidary to make cabochons.
Royal Imperial Jasper forms entirely as small nodules, often referred to as "eggs," which are renowned for their perfect, concentric or orbicular banding.
These nodules are highly prized by collectors and lapidary artists for several distinct characteristics:
- The "Egg" Pattern: Unlike standard vein-filled or "seam" jaspers, Royal Imperial Jasper grows in individual nodules. Slicing a nodule open typically reveals intricate, porcelain-like orbs or "egg" patterns in pastel purples, creams, pinks, and greens.
- Exterior: The nodules are generally small and flat (around 1.5" to 3") and feature a distinct, soft white or orangish chalky "skin" on the outside.
- Origin: This specific, highly-patterned material is found in steep canyons along the border of Jalisco and Zacatecas, north of Guadalajara, Mexico.
