Ruby zoisite (also known as anyolite or ruby-in-zoisite) is a natural, metamorphic rock composed of green zoisite, black pargasite or hornblende, and vibrant pink-to-red ruby crystals.
Key Characteristics & Composition
• Origin: First discovered in 1954 at the Mundarara Mine near Longido in Tanzania (which remains the primary source). The name anyolite comes from the Maasai word anyoli, meaning "green".
• Appearance: Features a striking visual contrast of dark-to-light green zoisite, dark hornblende/pargasite flecks, and bright magenta or crimson ruby inclusions. It also fluoresces a vivid red under long-wave UV light.
• Hardness: Has a mixed Mohs hardness of 6 to 6.5 for the zoisite matrix, while the embedded ruby portions are harder (around 9). It possesses perfect cleavage, meaning it can crack or fracture if struck hard.
This is what John from OK had to say about our gemstone specimens: I can always count on receiving great specimens from TNTMineCo and you can too

Safety Advisory (California Proposition 65):
While completely safe to display on a shelf or wear as finished pieces, many raw mineral specimens naturally contain toxic elements, heavy metals, or glass-like structures (such as copper, arsenic, lead, or silica). To ensure your safety, please follow these responsible ownership and lapidary protocols:
• Basic Handling: Always wash your hands immediately after touching raw minerals and never ingest minerals.
• Lapidary Safety: When cutting or drilling, always use specialized safety equipment, including wet-cutting machinery, proper ventilation, and appropriate respirators or masks to avoid inhaling toxic dust or fumes.
