Tiger's eye is a chatoyant (silky, shifting shine) gemstone belonging to the quartz group, known for its golden-yellow to red-brown bands and cat-eye appearance.
Physical & Mineral Properties
• Composition: Formed primarily of silicon dioxide (quartz) intergrown with altered amphibole and limonite fibers.
• Mohs Hardness: Rates a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it durable for daily wear.
• Chatoyancy: The signature shifting light effect happens because parallel fibrous structures reflect light like a cat's eye.
• Colors: Typically golden-yellow, brown, reddish-brown, and blue (known as hawk's eye or blue tiger's eye).
• Major Localities: Commonly mined in South Africa (Northern Cape) and Western Australia.
A chain or cord of your choice is included with purchase to give you a beautiful necklace you can wear immediately upon receiving. Please select above which option you choose:
- .925 sterling silver plated snake chain 16 to 30 inches in 2 inch increments
- 17-19 inch adjustable black faux leather cord
This is a great gift idea special for her be it Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Birthday, Bridesmaid gift, Christmas, etc.
We also take custom orders. If you’ve found your own rough rock that you would like turned into jewelry, we will be happy to help you. Or perhaps you have a special item like a shark tooth, coin, seashell, sea glass, etc. We can make all of these into treasured pieces of art for you.
This is what Annie from MA had to say about our wire wrapped pendants: I am so happy with this necklace! The craft work is beautiful and I love the mixed metal look. It really meant a lot to me that they reached out to make sure I was happy with my purchase and included a hand written note with my order. Will be buying again from this great company!
If you have any questions, please contact us.

Safety Advisory (California Proposition 65):
While completely safe to display on a shelf or wear as finished pieces, many raw mineral specimens naturally contain toxic elements, heavy metals, or glass-like structures (such as copper, arsenic, lead, or silica). To ensure your safety, please follow these responsible ownership and lapidary protocols:
• Basic Handling: Always wash your hands immediately after touching raw minerals and never ingest minerals.
• Lapidary Safety: When cutting or drilling, always use specialized safety equipment, including wet-cutting machinery, proper ventilation, and appropriate respirators or masks to avoid inhaling toxic dust or fumes.
Key Safety Facts
• Everyday Wear: Finished pieces like rings, pendants, and bracelets are non-toxic and safe for skin contact.
• Cutting and Grinding Risk: The main danger occurs only when cutting, sawing, shaping, or polishing the raw stone, which can release hazardous asbestos dust into the air and requires proper respiratory protection.
• Not for Ingestion or Drinks: Using tiger's eye as a "whiskey stone" or putting it in consumable liquids is unsafe, as fluids or alcohol can potentially break down the stone or leach micro-inclusions.
